About AMS Annual meeting 2018

To ensure the success of the weather, water and climate enterprise in the future, the 2018 AMS Annual Meeting theme is devoted to exploring our ‘culture of communication’. We communicate to share and generate ideas, exchange information, inform the public, and create an understanding and awareness of our sciences. Participants are invited to share, learn and collaborate on how to communicate emergency actions simply, express probabilistic/uncertainty information clearly, honing our predictive skills for chaotic systems, and perfecting our data collection and analysis techniques, all of which will be happening across scientific disciplines and between the government, academic, and commercial sectors, as well as with international collaborators.

Why visit the Kipp & Zonen booth?

You probably know Kipp & Zonen for its top-quality, very accurate solar radiation measuring instruments, such as the CMP and Smart SMP series pyranometers, the CHP1 and SHP1 pyrheliometers and the SOLYS sun tracker range, instruments that are used in meteorology, climate and solar energy networks around the world. Developments at Kipp & Zonen continue, however. In recent years we have been working on new and improved measuring solutions.

New in solar radiation measurement: the SUV series!

In October 2017 we launched our new SUV radiometers.

The new SUV series offers a measurement solution for every part of the ultraviolet solar radiation spectrum. The SUV5 total UV radiometer has been re-engineered into dedicated UVA, UVB and UVE (UV Index) models thus constituting a range that is smarter than any alternative; thanks to the latest detector technology, digital signal processing and Modbus® output. Our unique UVIATOR software improves measurement results by correcting for solar angle and ozone column effects.

SUV5 is a general-purpose instrument eminently suitable for meteorological applications. The high quality dome and diffuser warrant optimum directional response. A custom-designed optical filter ensures that the instrument responds to the total of both UVA and UVB radiation. The photodiode generates a voltage output linearly proportional to the UV intensity.
The advantages of the new SUV series are that these are Smart instruments with low power consumption. Besides, you won’t need to change the desiccant for the next 10 years, and what’s more, the SUV series comes with a 5 years warranty period.

Looking for a low-cost extension of your network?

In 2016 we launched RaZON+, an innovative and user friendly turn-key solution providing all components of solar irradiance, such as Direct Normal (DNI), Diffuse Horizontal (DHI) and calculated Global Horizontal (GHI), as well as sunshine duration.

Particularly interesting features of RaZON+ are the maintenance free Gear Drive sun tracker and the anti-soiling Smart pyrheliometer design.

The X-LAS MKII, our new Large Aperture Scintillometer

We are proud to introduce to you our new X-LAS MkII – launched in June 2016 - which measures over long distances, up to 12 km.
If you are interested in measuring atmospheric turbulence and in monitoring Evapo-Transpiration we recommend you take a look at X-LAS MKII. Our colleague(s) from Kipp & Zonen USA will be pleased to tell you all about our Large Aperture Scintillometers.

The Kipp & Zonen team hopes to see you in the Main Hall. Our booth is no. 715.

Apart from the SUV series, RaZON+ and the Scintillometer(s) our range of Smart sensors (SMP pyranometers, SHP1 pyrheliometer and SGR pyrgeometers), our CNR4 and NR Lite net radiometers and the SOLYS 2 sun tracker will be on display.

So, if you can find the time between the conferences, events, workshops, panel discussions, etc. please drop by our booth. We will be glad to answer your questions and assist you in solving your measurement problems. We love to hear your views on solar radiation measurements and we’re open to your suggestions, but of course you are equally welcome for a friendly chat.
